M.A. Industries Life Science Porous Plastics
Porous plastics products compromise an open cell, interconnected network of microscopic pores that allow the passage of fluids (gases and liquids). In some applications, the porous structure only controls the flow of gases. In other applications, the porous structure includes an additive that allows gaseous components to vent but will instantaneously seal to stop liquid flow.
The life science industry uses these porous plastics products in a wide range of applications. Examples include:
- Pipette tip filters
- I.V. Catheter Vents
- IV Cannula Vents
- Self-Sealing ESR plugs
- Fluid Suction Canister Vents
- Wound Drainage
- Fluid Management Systems
Resins used for porous plastic products are naturally hydrophobic and high or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. Products that utilize these resins typically yield pore sizes ranging from 10 to 50 microns. Higher pore sized products are possible with other resins if functionality requires it. Additionally, resins can be rendered hydrophilic with additives if needed.
Manufacturing— M.A. Industries is ISO 9001-2015 certified. The Life Science production facility is a controlled environment with clean-room filtration and strict gowning protocols for all personnel. Through unique innovation, M. A. Industries’ Life Science processes produce inherently low levels of flash that exceed similar market competition capabilities. M.A‘s life science production capacities for unit volume range from the millions to over 100 million, based on product size. Consequently, M.A. Industries is the preferred supplier of small life science filters and vent products to companies worldwide.
Packaging— All life science products undergo a static removal process before final packaging. M.A. Industries offers vacuum sealing as the standard packaging option. Additional options include anti-static inner bags to prevent static buildup in transport or mylar bags to establish a moisture barrier against humid environments. M.A. Industries is able to evaluate other packaging options to meet a customer’s needs.
Design to Production Part— Using an in-house CNC machine shop, M.A. Industries builds its own protype and production tooling, giving M.A. a high degree of control over machine times and project priorities. Such control enables M.A. to produce protypes in two weeks or be full-scale production ready in ten to twelve weeks from customer approval dates. With in-house tooling capabilities, M.A. can get production products moving sooner at lower costs, which is passed on to our customers.
Customer Service— M.A. Industries is a small family-owned company built in America. This organizational advantage allows customers to directly and easily get access to dedicated porous plastics customer service staff as well as our quality manager, manager of engineering or M.A. Industries president and CEO with a simple phone call. This accessibility to pertinent personnel serves customers with quicker responses and support when needed.
